Two rookies make Blazers roster nearly complete

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forwards Cam Doull (duel) and Bryn Gagnon (gan-yawn), head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Doull is a 6-0, 195-pounder from Marwayne, Alberta. Each of the last four seasons, he has played with the South Alberta Institute of Technology. In 72 games with the Trojans, he recorded 81 points (36-45-81) and served 94 penalty minutes. In three of his four seasons with SAIT, his team won the league championship and he served as alternate captain during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Prior to his stay with SAIT, he at Lake Forest College in Illinois. In one season with the Forresters, he scored 25 points (11-14-25) in 28 games. He completed his junior career with the Lloydminster Blazers, recording 159 points (67-92-159) and serving 462 penalty minutes in 180 games over three seasons.

The 6-1, 215-pound Gagnon was Doull's teammate at SAIT for the last three seasons. Over 66 games with the Trojans, he recorded 72 points (34-38-72) and served 79 penalty minutes. He also served as alternate captain for two seasons and played on two league championship squads. In 2007, He was voted SAIT Male Athlete of the Year, team Most Valuable Player and was named to the ACAC All Conference Team. Prior to skating with SAIT, he completed his junior career with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Over his final two seasons with Salmon Arm, he recorded 86 points (43-43-86) and served 141 penalty minutes in 111 games.

"Both of these players were highly recommended to us by the Edmonton Oilers," said Sauter. "Each were headed to Europe, but their opportunities dried up, which was to our benefit. Both are mature players, have decent size and good skills. Doull can play either wing, is a leader and is very coachable. Gagnon is a right shot, possesses good leadership skills and is eager to play."

The addition of Doull and Gagnon bring the number of players signed for the 08-09 season to 24. He joins forwards D.J. Jelitto, Brian Passmore, Jason Murfitt, Simon Lambert, Bill Vandermeer, Ted Vandermeer, Bobby Reed, Brennen Francon, Mark Black, Marty Standish, Robin Gomez and Quinn Amiel defensemen Tyler Fleck, Stacey Bauman, Justin Sawyer, Tyler Harder, Jason Seerey, Jaye Judd, Oriel McHugh and Ryan Waldner and goaltenders Andy Franck and Doug Groenestege.

The Blazers 17th season of play commences October 17 at the Ford Center against the Tulsa Oilers. Season ticket packages are available now by calling the Blazers office at 235-PUCK.

NOTE: The Blazers will play two preseason games against the Tulsa Oilers in conjunction with training camp. October 9, they will travel the Turner Turnpike to play the Oilers at the Oilers Ice Center at 7:05 p.m. October 11, the Blazers host the Oilers at the Blazers Ice Centre at 7:10 p.m. Admission to the game in Oklahoma City is $10. Season ticket holders have a ticket to the preseason game included as part of their season ticket package.
