GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the addition of two more players to the roster today as infielder Brad Boyer and catcher Johnny Bowden join the spring training roster.

Boyer, 27, saw time at five different positions during his five-year tenure in the San Francisco Giants system. The last three seasons, Boyer has played at Double-A or above, spending 46 games with Triple-A Fresno during 2010. Selected by the Seattle Mariners in 14th Round of the 2005 Draft, Boyer was tabbed a year later in the 13th Round by the Giants. Hailing from Santa Monica, California, Boyer batted .348 in 75 games with High-A San Jose in 2008 before moving up to Double-A Connecticut. Playing at second and third, Boyer swiped 15 bases, amassed a career high seven homers, and knocked home 45 runs with San Jose. Opening 2009 with the Double-A Defenders, Boyer batted .294 with 22 doubles and 10 triples. The left-handed hitter stole 57 bases during his tenure with the Giants with a career high 20 in 2007 with San Jose.

Playing collegiately at the University of Arizona, Boyer set several freshman records including runs, hits, doubles, triples, and stolen bases, becoming the first ever Arizona freshman to earn First Team All-Pac 10 honors. Other freshman year honors included a Freshman All-American choice by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. Boyer finished among the career leaders in games, at bats, runs, hits, triples, and stolen bases at Arizona. A four-year starter, Boyer played in the 2004 College World Series and became just the fourth player in school history to score 200 or more runs.

Bowden, 26, recorded four seasons with the Colorado Rockies farm system. The 6'3" catcher progressed to Triple-A in 2010, logging time with the Colorado Springs SkySox. The Springfield, Oregon native also saw time with Double-A Tulsa last season. Chosen in the 41st Round of the 2007 Draft, Bowden opened his pro career with Tri-City in the Northwest League. During the 2008 campaign, Bowden appeared in 36 games with Tri-City before being pushed to High-A Modesto. With the Dust Devils, Bowden knocked a career high four homers and a pair of triples to go with a .276 average.

After playing at Gilbert Community College, the catcher moved on to the University of Southern California, finishing second on the squad in hitting with a .322 clip during his second campaign with the Trojans and threw out 37 percent of would be base stealers in 2006. Bowden's great-grandfather is the brother of long-time Florida State Head Football Coach, Bobby Bowden.

In separate moves, the RailCats traded catcher John Parham to the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League in exchange for a player to be named. Pitcher Joe Tarallo was dealt to the Florence Freedom, also of the Frontier League, for a player to be named.
