Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD -The Hagerstown Suns (27-42), led by two home runs from first baseman Tim Pahuta, topped the Lake County Captains (33-36) on Sunday by a score of 7-5.

Pahuta's first homer of the game came in the bottom of the first inning, and tied the score at 1-1 after Karexon Sanchez homered for the Captains in the top of the first.

Lake County notched two more runs in the top of the third inning before Pahuta struck again, this time with two runners on.

Valerio Heredia walked with one out in the bottom of the third before Jose Lozada was hit by a pitch from Captains starter Ryan Morris (9-7). Then, with the Suns trailing 3-1, Pahuta hit his second home run of the evening, and 17th of the season, to put the Suns ahead 4-3.

Hagerstown tacked on two more with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 6-3 before the Captains bats rallied to close the gap.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning and Suns starter Chris Lugo (3-2) still on the mound, Matt McBride singled and scored on a Todd Martin double, cutting the Suns lead to two runs. Lake County then made it a one run game as Jeff Hehr homered off reliever Dan Leatherman in the top of the seventh inning.

The Suns regained the two run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning as Robbie Jacobsen singled, eventually reached third and scored on a passed ball by catcher Adam Davis. Davis allowed the winning run to score on Saturday night against the Suns with a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Hagerstown's Justin Phillabaum pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season, while Lugo's five and two thirds of work were good enough for the win. Morris lasted just four innings for Lake County and surrendered five runs, as the left hander was credited with the loss.
