Two Future Bulls Named to All NAPHL Teams

Two future members of the Amarillo Bulls were honored today (Friday) by the North American Prospects Hockey League.

Forward Max Mclain of the Anaheim Jr. Ducks was named to the first all NAPHL in the Under-18 Division, while forward Elijiah Barriga also of the Anaheim Jr. Ducks was named to the third all NAPHL in the Under-16 Division.

Mclain a native of Placentia, California leads the Under 18 Jr. Ducks with 23 goals and 18 assists for 41 points in just 25 games. The 5-7, 165-pound forward has seven power goals and added another four shorthanded. Barriga, a native of West Covina, California, has fired 16 goals added 27 assists for 43 points and just 28 games. Barriga, a 5-11, 185 pound forward, has one power play goal, two shorthanded markers and two game winners.

In order to be considered for selection, players must have been nominated by their respective coaches.After that, selection is based on player performance in all NAPHL games throughout the 2012-13 season.

Amarillo Bulls Assistant Coach Rocky Russo said the coaching staff couldn't be more proud of the young men and their accomplishments.

"The North American Hockey League created the NAPHL several years ago and the overall level of competition has increased," said Russo. "It has gotten to the point where there are very good hockey players. Elijiah of the U-16 team, and Max of the U-18 team have both done an excellent job this year."

Russo said he expects both to be impact players when they come to the Bulls next season.

"Elijiah is a big, strong power forward born in 1996, he skates pretty well, has good vision, and is a very intelligent young man," said Russo. "Max is a smaller, speedy forward with a high skill set. He has top end speed when moving up and down the ice."

The NAPHL, which just completed its fourth season in 2012-13,is composed of Midget Major (18U) and Midget Minor (16U) teams from across North America that compete at the Tier I level. The NAPHL continues to establish itself as the premiere training ground for development and exposure. Not only have players in the NAPHL received year-long recognition from the NHL Central Scouting Bureau, dozens have received scholarships to NCAA Division I schools and hundreds more have been drafted and tendered by North American Hockey League (NAHL).

It's the second last road trip of the regular season for the Amarillo Bulls as they hit the ice in Corpus Christi this weekend. The two teams will face one another Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 3 pm at American Bank Center. Fans can tune into the action on CBS Sports Radio 1440, www.amarillobulls.com, and on Pay-Per-View courtesy of Fast Hockey with pre-game coverage 15 minutes before the puck is dropped. Denis J. The North American Hockey League playoffs return to the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday, Apr. 5 and Sunday Apr. 6 when the Amarillo Bulls play the first two games of the South Division Semi-Final Series either against the Corpus Christi IceRays or the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

Prices start as low as, silver section $40, red section $52 glass tickets $60 and pit section $68 while children 12 and under are just $28. The package comes with a total of four tickets and should a fifth game be necessary in either of the series fans that purchased the package can get that ticket at a discounted rate.
