Eagles look to clinch first-place this weekend against Jr. Blues
The Soo Eagles are looking to clinch first-place in the North American Hockey League's North Division this weekend, as they will host the Springfield Jr. Blues, this Friday and Saturday night at Pullar Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. both nights, and if you can't make the games, you can watch all the action at fasthockey.com.
The Eagles currently are in first-place in the North Division, with 81 points, and lead Jamestown by seven points, and Kalamazoo by eight points, with four games remaining for all three teams.
Plenty of special events at the Pullar over the next two weeks There regular season may be ending in a couple of weeks, but the special events at Pullar Stadium are in full swing, and there are plenty to choose from.
This weekend is "Military Weekend" along with "Parents Weekend". All active duty or retired military personnel can purchase their ticket, with a valid id, for only $5.00, all weekend long. The parents of the Soo Eagles players, as well as housing parents, will be honored Saturday night, during the 1st intermission.
Eagles collect one point in Port Huron The Soo Eagles managed to garner a point last weekend at Port Huron, in their final regular season road games of the season. Here is a recap of last weekend's action.
Port Huron Fighting Falcons 4, Soo Eagles 3 (1-0 SO) - March 16, 2013
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Huron Fighting Falcons defeated the Soo Eagles in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Port Huron came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Fighting Falcons was down 3-2 after a power play goal by Soo's Jared VanWormer at 3:46 in the third period. Port Huron knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tyler Spezia at 6:43 in the third period. In a losing effort, the Eagles were led by Michael Crowley, who grabbed two goals. Crowley scored the first of his two goals at 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo. Mike Sabatini assisted on the tally. Crowley's next tally made the score 2-2 with 5:47 left in the second period. Sabatini provided the assist. The Fighting Falcons put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 they average per game. Port Huron was helped by Mitch Maloney, who racked up one goal. Maloney scored 17:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dan Dupell assisted on the tally. Port Huron also got a goal from Brett DAndrea as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Alex Archibald, David Parrottino, Dunk Abbott, Nick Horne, and Rick DeRosa, who each chipped in one. The Eagles stifled the Fighting Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. More assists for the Soo came via Matt Menta, who had two and Sean Murphy and Eric Rivard, who contributed one a piece. Alex Blankenburg recorded 22 saves for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Skoog Paige made 30 saves for the Eagles on 33 shots. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Port Huron Fighting Falcons 4, Soo Eagles 2 - March 15, 2013
The Port Huron Fighting Falcons gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Soo Eagles in North American Hockey League play on Friday night. Port Huron gained the winning advantage on a goal by Dan Dupell 2:14 into the third period and hung on until final horn. The Fighting Falcons were led by Dupell, who registered one goal. Port Huron additionally got points from Tyler Spezia, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Port Huron also got a goal from Easton Powers as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Brett DAndrea, who had two and Ryan Nick, David Parrottino, Mitch Maloney, Nick Horne, and Rick DeRosa, who each chipped in one. The Eagles were elped by Pat Thompson, who grabbed one goal. Thompson scored 10:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Soo. Brandon Adams picked up the assist. Cody Von Reuden also scored for Soo. In addition, the Eagles received assists from Mike Sabatini, Robin Hoglund, and Michael Crowley, who contributed one a piece. Max Milosek recorded 21 saves for the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Tyler Marble made 39 saves for the Eagles on 43 shots. Eagles pre-draft tryout camp 2013-14
Enrollment is limited - Register early to avoid disappointment.
The Soo Eagles are proud to announce the try-out camp schedule for the 2013-2014 North American Hockey League season. The first camp will be held May 17-19 at the Big Bear Arena, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. There will also be try-out camps in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 31 - June 2 and Farmington Hills, MI on June 21 - 23. Additional camps for the 2013-14 NAHL season, will be announced soon.
The Eagles are committed to find those players who have a passion for hockey and wish to pursue the highest level of hockey possible. We are looking for players who place a premium on character on and off the ice. The Eagles have the finest Billet and Education coordinator along with Coach Bruno Bragagnolo, who has compiled a 127-39-12 record in three years in SSM including a NOJHL Championship in 2010/11. Coach Bragagnolo has moved several players to higher levels and has a network of college coaches he is in contact with throughout the year. The Soo Eagles are anticipating several openings for their roster next year. The Eagles camps are designed so players can show the coaches and scouts their respective skills. There will be at least three games guaranteed and then a chance to be selected for the Sunday All-star game. The Eagles will have their main camp in August for those boys who would be invited back. With the NAHL draft on June 3rd, this is a wonderful opportunity to show the staff your skill level prior to the draft.
All players will get three full games. All Soo Eagles coaching and scouting staff will be in attendance to closely watch all players. The cost of the camp for players born 1993-1997 is $250.00 USD. Preferred method of payment is Pay Pal, but checks and cash will be accepted (follow instructions after submitting form). Refunds will be available, up to 30 days before the start of camp.

Soo Eagles begin their playoff season on April 12 and 13 right here in Sault Ste Marie at the Pullar Stadium. Ticket prices remain the same for the playoffs and can be reserved in advance by calling the Soo Eagles office at 906-259-0522. Don't be disappointed, get your tickets early and help cheer on your 1st place Eagles, to the Robertson Cup. Prices are $8.50 for Adults, $6.50 for seniors and students (seventeen and under) are only $5.00.
Eagles host "Business After 5" On Thursday, Soo Eagles staff, players and volunteers were on hand, at Pullar Stadium, as the organization hosted the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce "Business After 5". All Sault Chamber members were invited to this monthly meeting and the Eagles provided a unique venue for this social function, and a way to network with other Chamber businesses.
Local residents were able to meet some of the coaches, players and volunteers for the Eagles, as well as viewing many historical pictures, and had a chance at various raffle prizes and 50-50 draw.
The Soo Eagles would like to thank the Chamber and all Chamber members and people who attended this special function.
