Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the signing of defenseman Trevor Socholotuk and goaltender Dan McWhinney. Socholotuk, the 5'11" 190 lb native of Kenora, Ontario, returns for his fourth season as a Gorilla, coming off his most productive offensive campaign which saw him score 14 points (1-13-14) in 63 games. Head Coach Jim Wiley was excited about Socholotuk's return, saying "Trevor has shown myself as well as his teammates and organization that he is a fierce competitor and can be counted on for his 100% effort each time he steps on the ice." Prior to joining the Gorillas, Socholotuk spent time with the Cape Fear Fire Antz (SEHL), Miami Manitees (WHA2), Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL) and the Winnipeg Saints (MJHL). During the 2006-2007 campaign, Socholotuk along with teammate Jason Chafe were named the 'Most Improved Player' as voted on by the players.

McWhinney, the 22 year old goaltender from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario comes to the Gorillas after spending last season with the Fort Wayne Komets of the United Hockey League. Appearing in 16 games, McWhinney posted a record of 9-3-1 with a 3.11 Goals Against Average (GAA). McWhinney also made an appearance on the Canadian reality television series "Making the Cut" and advanced to the final round for the goaltenders.

Wiley said of McWhinney "Dan has played under the shadow of a number one goalie last season and from all scouting reports is ready to take on the challenges of a number one goalie. He started playing hockey later in years than most hockey players but has shown the hockey world that he is as prepared and capable as any established player."

The Gorillas will begin their 2007-2008 campaign on October 19th. For more information on tickets and corporate partnerships, call the Gorillas office at 242-PUCK or visit our website at www.amarillogorillas.com.
