
SteelHounds Send Seven to AHL Training Camps

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League are proud to announce that seven Hounds will be attending American Hockey League training camps.

SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski believes this is a great step forward for the reputation of his hockey club saying, "This is a great opportunity for our players and it also is very positive for our organization. There is no better feeling to get called up and get that taste in your mouth. This is what it is all about."
Margeson, 25, is coming off a career year with the SteelHounds as he recorded 17 goals and 22 assists while not missing a game. He also added 125 penalty minutes and was a +21 plus/minus rating. In six playoff games he posted three goals and two assists. His 17 goals ranked third among CHL defensemen and his +21 was fifth. Margeson was recognized by his teammates at the end of the season by earning the SteelHounds Most Improved Player award as well as being named the team's "Unsung Hero." The 6-3, 210-pound native of Banff, Alberta finished last year with his first ever call-up to the Syracuse Crunch.
Burnett, 26, comes to Youngstown after spending his rookie season with the ECHL Utah Grizzlies where he compiled nine assists, 189 penalty minutes and a +5 in 50 games. The 6-1, 200-pound second-year pro played four years at Division III College of St. Scholastica (Minnesota) where in 104 games he accumulated 12 goals, 24 assists and 277 penalty minutes for the Saints.
Johnson, 26, will make his SteelHounds and CHL debut this season after spending his first two professional season in the ECHL where he compiled 14 goals and 12 assists in 63 games with San Diego, Cincinnati and Pensacola. Prior to turning pro the native of Coon Rapids, Minnesota played four years of Division I hockey at Mercyhurst College where he racked up 28 goals and 32 assists in 117 games.
Sedevie, 24, comes to the Hounds after playing four years of Division I hockey with Bemidji State University (Minnesota). While with the Beavers the native of Bismarck, North Dakota had a 29-21-4 record in 54 games with two shutouts. Prior to attending Bemidji State the 5-9, 180 pound net minder played two seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Sioux Falls Stampede and the Topeka Scarecrows.
Smyth, 23, is a fifth-year pro out of Wiarton, Ontario who has seen action in the American Hockey League, the ECHL and most recently the UHL with the Muskegon Fury. The 6-1, 225-pound right wing compiled 14 goals, 14 assists and 236 penalty minutes in 70 games last season. During his professional career, Smyth has earned 64 points coming from 28 goals and 36 assists; he also racked up 754 penalty minutes in 192 career games.
Recently signed Affleck, 24, comes to Youngstown after playing his rookie season with the Danville Pounders of the North Eastern Hockey League where in just 15 games he accumulated 35 points coming from 12 goals and 23 assists. Prior to turning professional the 5-10, 185-pound forward from Mission Viejo, California played NCAA hockey at Division III Lebanon Valley College. Per team policy terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Maslonka, 20, who is still in negotiations with the SteelHounds, finished his rookie year with the Hounds after starting his career with the Elmira Jackals. In 28 games for the Hounds the 6-6, 245-pound defenseman recorded one goal and six assists to go along with 132 penalty minutes and a +4 rating. The native of Zvolen, Slovakia was called to Hartford last season but did not suit up with the Wolf Pack because of injury.
The SteelHounds will visit the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL in a preseason match-up on Wednesday, October 10th. SteelHounds Hockey returns to the Chevrolet Center on Friday October 12th when the Hounds host the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL at 7:05 pm.
