Two Copperhead Players Receive TCL Honors

June 15, 2011 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Coppell Copperheads News Release

The Copperheads are proud to announce that two of their players received TCL Honors for week two of the 2011 season. It was announced on Monday that Tyler Collins was named the player of the week and that Jacob Lara was named co-pitcher of the week for the Texas Collegiate League.

Collins slugged his way through the week to earn his first TCL Player of the Week award. The Howard College product batted .435 and crushed three home runs, including a two-homer game against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. He slugged a whopping .900 on the week while driving in seven runs and scoring six more. Collins, who was drafted in the sixth round last week by the Detroit Tigers, upped his league-leading home run total to five in just ten games.

Lara did all he could to give Coppell a sweep of the Week Two awards, earning a share of the TCL Pitcher of the Week award. Lara picked up his second win of the season with six innings of one-hit ball. He struck out seven and walked three while shutting out the Cane Cutters offense. It was Lara's second start of the season - and the second time he tossed six shutout innings and allowed just one hit.

Come out to the CISD Baseball Complex behind Coppell West Middle School and cheer on Tyler, Jacob, and the rest of the Copperheads as they work to stay in the number one spot in the TCL.
