Eight Copperheads to Appear in TCL All-Star Game

The Coppell Copperheads are pleased to announce that eight Copperheads were named to the North roster for the 2011 Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game. The game will be hosted by the Brazos Valley Bombers next Monday, July 18, in Bryan, Texas.Copperhead catcher, Joe Andrade, will see some time behind the plate for the North team. Joe is a junior from Dixie State College in Utah and currently has a batting average of .342 for the season.

There will be two Copperheads represented in the infield for the North team, Tyler Migl and Nick Smelser. Tyler is a junior from St. Mary's University in San Antonio and will be the starting first baseman in Monday night's game. Tyler is currently hitting .286 and has 19 RBIs this season. Nick just finished his sophomore year at Midland college and will be playing for Texas State University in the fall. Nick is currently batting .248 this summer, tied for first in the RBI category for the league with 23 RBIs, and is tied for fourth in the home run leader category with 3 for the season.

There will also be two Copperheads sharing time in the outfield during the all-star game, Tyler Collins and Matt Shortall were both named to the North team's outfield roster. Tyler Collins, who got drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 6th round earlier this season, will be one of the starting outfielders in Monday night's game. He was a sophomore at Howard College this past season and is currently committed to attend Texas Christian University in the fall if he does not sign a professional contract. Tyler currently holds a batting average of .319 and is leading the league in both hits (44) and home runs (7). Matt is a sophomore from the University of Texas - Arlington and is the only returning all-star in the game this year. He is currently placed sixth in the batting average category with a .316.

The Copperheads will have three pitchers on this year's all-star roster; Doug Ashby, Carlton O'Neal, and Rafael Pineda. Doug is a freshman from Baylor University and has a 2.27 ERA currently this season. Carlton O'Neal is a sophomore from St. Mary's University in San Antonio and is currently ranked third in the league with his 1.53 ERA and has 3 wins this season. Rafael is a sophomore from Texas A&M University and has yet to allow an earned run this season.

The Copperheads management and coaching staff are very proud of their players who made the North roster in the 2011 Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game. Come out and support these guys and the rest of the Copperhead team this Wednesday and Thursday night as they take on the Alexandria Aces.
