Copperheads Sweep Bombers

Coppell, Texas - The Copperheads sweep the Brazos Valley Bombers on the road on Monday and Tuesday. After a hard week last week for the Copperheads, the team was able to come back and start of the week with a couple of wins on the road.

Monday's game against the Bombers was a lengthy 11 innings. The Copperheads led for the majority of the game until Brazos Valley came back in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game. The 9th and 10th inning would result in no runs scored for either team but Anthony Guglielmi received an RBI single in the top of the 11th to bring in Cody Dyvig for the winning run. Then with another run scored with a walk by Quinn Boyer, the Copperheads were able to go out on the field in the bottom of the 11th with a two run lead. Aaron Zwar went into the game in the 11th inning and shut down three batters and allowed only one hit. That innings performance earned Zwar the save with Nick Krolczyk getting the win for the Copperheads. The final score was 13-11.

Tuesday's game was much shorter and resulted in another win for the Copperheads with a score of 4-1. The Bombers ‚¬â„¢ only run scored in the first inning when Brennyn Smith brought in teammate Greg Olson on a sacrifice fly to center field. It was a one run ballgame until the top of the 6th inning when the Copperheads scored all four of their runs. Nick Smelser started off the inning with a double to center field. Quinn Boyer moved Smelser to 3rd with a single and then Tyler Collins brought in the first run for the Copperheads with a single to second base. Matt Shortall follows Collins' RBI with another RBI single to right field and then Joe Andrade came up and knocked in the final two runs with an RBI double. Carlton O'Neal received the win with 7 innings pitched and Rafael Pineda got the save in Tuesday night ‚¬â„¢s game.

The Copperheads are at home the rest of the week starting Wednesday night when they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
