Coppell Copperheads News Release

COPPELL, Texas: It didn't take long for the visiting Aces to get a run on the board. With Carlton O'Neal pitching for the Copperheads the Aces started their base retrieval early. Although both teams remained scoreless in the first inning, they both successfully got players to first base. Ending with outs for both teams, the heat picked up in the second inning. With players at both first and second for the Aces, a hit by Aces Zach George brings in a run home but the Copperheads kept their strong defensive game grabbing double outs in one play.

Excitement stirs in the fourth inning when Collins gets off a hit getting him to first with Migl also making it to first due to an Aces error. Similar action occurs in the fifth with both Friend and Klemcke getting on base, but just like the fourth, the inning remains scoreless for both teams.

Start of the sixth inning, with the score at 1-0 Aces, Doug Ashby steps up to the mound as the new Copperheads pitcher. Beau Faulk for the Aces at bat makes it to first base due to a Copperhead error, but the inning is promptly ended with a Copperhead double play. With Matt Shepard pitching for the Aces, the Copperheads capitalized on the pitching change. Collins starts the inning strong with a hit getting him to second base. Migl walks to first followed by Andrade bunting and also getting to first, shifting Migl to second and Collins to third. With the bases loaded and no outs for the Copperheads, Tyler Collins is able to steal home with Matt Shortall up at bat, putting them on the board for the first time (1-1). The inning is rounded out by two more runs by Tyler Migl and Andrade making the score 3-1 Copperheads.

A pitching change for the Aces leads to another run by the Copperheads. Nick Smelser gets to second off of his hit and comes home with another hit by Tyler Collins. Momentum again picks up for the Copperheads in the eighth inning. Andrade gets to second base followed by a hit deep left by Shortall taking him to second and bringing Andrade home. Walsh also hits left bringing Shortall home and also getting him to second. With back to back to back double plays, Friend gets the first out of the innings. Dyvig hits a sacrifice bunt which gets Walsh to 3rd, but also gets out in doing so. Copperheads end the eighth with 2 runs, 3 hits and a leading score of 6-1.

The Copperheads end the game with pitcher Aaron Zwar and keep the Aces to one run in the last inning of the game. Migl gets the final out of the inning with a sliding catch at first base. Game ends with a Copperhead victory 6-1 over the Alexandria Aces. Next the Copperheads take on the Brazos Valley Bombers on June 15th at 7pm. The Copperheads are currently 3-1 against the Bombers and 9-3 overall.
