Two Comebacks Not Enough for Skyhawks

Sussex Skyhawks News Release

The Sussex Skyhawks (6-5) lost a hard-fought game to the visiting Brockton Rox (5-6) on Monday night at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park. The Skyhawks came back from two deficits but were unable to pull off a third rally in the ninth and lost 6-4. Sussex RHP Jared Yecker took the loss, allowing two runs in the top of the ninth on one hit, three walks and a hit batsman. Brockton RHP Colin Lynch was credited with the win for his one inning of work in the eighth, and RHP Josh Papelbon earned the save with a scoreless ninth.

Both starters pitched well in a rematch of last Wednesday's meeting between these two teams. RHP Jusef Frias surrendered just two runs in six innings for the Skyhawks while striking out seven, and RHP Wayne Lundgren gave up three runs (two earned) in seven innings for the visitors. Neither pitcher received a decision.

Brockton 3B Phillip Cuadrado was Sussex's Achilles Heel. He hit a two-run homerun in the eighth inning to put the Rox ahead 4-3 and was then hit by a pitch in the ninth to push across the go-ahead and eventual winning run. DH Caleb Stewart led the home team's attack, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

These two teams are back at it again Tuesday night for what will be their fifth meeting already this season. The Rox have taken three of the first four, but the Skyhawks are hopeful that RHP Mike McGuire can help them split this two-game set at home when he faces off against Brockton's RHP Mike Smith. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
