August 21, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

Chivas USA players Mike Muñoz and Lawson Vaughn each underwent successful surgeries last week. Muñoz, a midfielder, had an arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday in Santa Monica, CA, for derangement of his right ankle, and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Vaughn, a defender, traveled to Munich, Germany, where he had surgery on a sports hernia; he expected to be out for 2-4 weeks.

Operating on Muñoz was Chivas USA team doctor Michael Gerhardt, along with Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. Vaughn traveled to Germany for the procedure with specialist Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, who has performed sports hernia surgeries on over 1000 soccer players in her career.

Muñoz, a University of California-Berkeley product and native of Los Alamitos, made one appearance for the Red-and-White in 2005, and played two full reserve games for Chivas USA this season. Lawson Vaughn is a Marietta, Georgia native who attended college at the University of South Carolina and at the University of Tulsa. He has made 13 appearances for Chivas USA this year in his rookie season, starting eight games, and has one assist.
