Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - It's another first for the Amarillo Bulls franchise today (Wednesday) when it was announced that Alumni Joe Kozlak of Army and Karl Beckman of Holy Cross were named to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Rookie Team.
All student-athletes were nominated by their coaches and voted on by the remaining 11 coaches.
Kozlak, from Duluth, Minn., was among the scoring leaders for the Black Knights this season and earned his spot on the All-Rookie Team after scoring seven goals and handing out 10 assists.
Kozlak was one of seven players who competed in all 34 games for Army. He scored two game-winning goals and once on the power play while registering a pair of multiple-point games.
Kozlak collected assists in two of his first three games and then posted the first multiple-point game of his career with a goal and assist against Sacred Heart. Two games later, he scored the game-winning goal on the power in a victory over Holy Cross.
One of Kozlak's biggest goals came on the road at Canisius when he netted the game-winning tally in overtime of a 1-0 victory.
Kozlak also scored goals opposite Connecticut, RIT and Bentley as well as against Mercyhurst in the playoffs. He posted assists in contests against Maine, Sacred Heart, AIC, RIT, Bentley, Connecticut and Holy Cross.
Kozlak is the first Army player to be tabbed for All-Rookie honors since Marcel Alvarez was chosen in 2009. Tim Manthey (2006) and Owen Meyer (2007) also earned the accolade.
Beckman (Okemos, Mich.) has four goals and 12 assists for 16 points.
This season Beckman was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for February as his eight assists led the team for the month. Beckman was named the Team Travel USA Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on March 4 as the Crusaders went 3-0-0 on the week.
He posted one assist in the 4-2 win versus Sacred Heart on Feb 25, while he netted two goals as the Crusaders defeated Army, 6-3 on March 1. Additionally, Beckman was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Feb. 4, as he posted his first collegiate goal and also tallied one assist for two points as the Crusaders defeated Canisius, 5-1, on Feb. 3. Beckman has four goals and eight assists for 12 points over the last nine games.
