Arkansas Diamonds News Release
The Arkansas Twisters used a late defensive surge to put the offense in a position to comeback against one of the best teams in af2, but a late turnover cost the Twisters any chance of snapping their franchise record losing streak, losing 36-23 to Tennessee Valley.
The Twisters offense struggled to get going in the first half while everything was going the Vipers way. Tennessee Valley's Josh Killett found Jerrian James three times in the first half. Arkansas could only muster three points in the same time and trailed 27-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Kevin Williams capped a 10 play 39 yard drive with a short touchdown run that cut the Vipers lead to 27-10. Then Arkansas look to be right back in the game when Shakorr Bryant hit Killett, and the Vipers Quarterback appeared to fumble the ball at his five yard line and Reggie Cooley picked up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. But officials ruled the play an incomplete pass, and the Vipers finished by scoring a few plays later.
With the score 33-10, Arkansas scored thirteen unanswered to pull within ten points and needed a defensive stop to get closer. Arkansas got it when Cooley blocked a fourth down field goal attempt by Tennessee Valley, and Arkansas got the ball back on the Vipers 20 yard line. But the comeback ended with Shakoorr Bryant caught a pass from Williams, hit the wall, and was stripped of the ball by Travis McAlpine. Officials ruled Bryant fumbled and gave Tennessee Valley the ball. The Vipers finished with a field goal that sealed the score at 36-23.
Kevin Williams finished 19 of 38, 180 yards passing, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also had 19 yards rushing and one touchdown. Ted Alford had 273 yards of total offense.
Josh Kellett finished 20 of 31, 152 yards passing, and four touchdowns. Jerrian James had four total touchdowns, including a 56 yards kickoff return for a touchdown, to help improve the Vipers to 6-3 on the year. Arkansas falls to 1-8 on the season, dropping eight straight games. The Twisters return to Alltel Arena next Saturday against Albany.
