
Cape Fear Wildcats roar past Albany Conquest, 78-51

Albany, N.Y., June 6, 2004 â Offensive Specialist Matt Burstein caught four touchdown passes leading the Cape Fear Wildcats to a 78-51 win over the Albany Conquest on Sunday afternoon at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y.
Burstein's fourth TD catch, a 22-yard strike from Cape Fear QB Mike Gluski, put the Wildcats ahead 46-31 with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Burstien earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors catching TD passes of 38, 30, 27, and 22 yards. Burstein had seven catches for 157 yards. Gluski, making his second start for the Wildcats, was 20-of-32 passing for 314 yards with seven TDs and three interceptions.
Albany had led on two occasions in the first quarter of the game, first when QB D. Bryant threw a 30-yard TD pass to Tony Locke putting the Conquest ahead 7-6, then when Cy Butler caught an 18-yard TD reception from Bryant giving Albany a 14-13 advantage late in the first quarter. Bryant was 10-of-21 passing for 143 yards throwing three TDs and two interceptions.
Early in the second quarter, Albany drew to within a 19-17 score when kicker Vinny Cirrincione booted a 56-yard field goal, which set an Albany Conquest franchise record for distance.
Locke had 227 all-purpose yards in the game. He caught two passes for 37 yards with one TD and amassed 190 yards in kickoff return yardage, including a 56-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, his third kick return for a score this season.
The Conquest's Travis Coleman earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors recording two interceptions and two passes broken up. He also had three tackles, including an assist on one for a loss.
With the win, Cape Fear (5-3) remains in second place in the Northeast Division and earned their second victory this season over the Conquest (3-6), who allowed the most points in a single-game in franchise history and are in last place in the division. Cape Fear posted a 70-55 win over Albany back on April 10 in Fayetteville, N.C.
The Albany Conquest will travel to face the Arkansas Twisters next Saturday (June 12) at 8 p.m. EST in Little Rock, Ark. The Conquest's next home game is June 18 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena and the game will feature a concert by Blue Oyster Cult.
