Danville Otterbots News Release

Danville, VA - The Braves had no problem getting hits off of Elizabethton pitching tonight, but they were unable to muster up any runs. Danville had two runners thrown out at home in Wednesday night's contest and Ernesto Silva had to leave the game after just three innings pitched due to a cut on his throwing hand.

Danville led off the game with a single from Nick Ahmed and another single from Elmer Reyes. Max Kepler misplayed Reyes's single and both Ahmed and Reyes were able to advance a base on the error. Two batters later, Billy Beckwith grounded to first baseman Kennys Vargas. Vargas immediately threw home to catch Nick Ahmed by ten feet. Chase Larsson ended the inning on a groundout to second.

Danville starter, Ernesto Silva, was pitching a great game through three innings. He had only allowed one hit and struck out two. Unfortunately, as Silva began to warm up for the fourth, a cut formed on his throwing hand and the D-Braves coaching staff deemed him unable to pitch.

John Cornely came in his relief, but had no limit on his warm up tosses due to the unexpected injury to Silva. Cornely walked the first batter he faced. Niko Goodrum then stole his fifth base of the season. With one out, Eddie Rosario, one of last night's heroes for the Twins, singled to left to score Goodrum. The Twins had a 1-0 lead with just one out in the fourth.

Kennys Vargas, who hit the game-winning homer in the tenth inning last night, doubled to right field. The double was followed up by Matt Koch's sacrifice fly to right field. Fernando De Los Santos caught the fly ball and was able to gun out Vargas who was trying to take third, but not before the Twins had one more run. Koch made his professional debut tonight and went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

The score remained that way until the seventh when the Twins scored one more off of Cornely. The run scored on a Vargas groundout after Eddie Rosario tripled. Cornely ended up pitching four innings and received the loss. He struck out four and walked four.

The Braves also had De Los Santos thrown out at home in the home half of the second when he tried to score from second base on an Nick Ahmed single.

The Braves dropped to second place behind the Bluefield Blue Jays tonight. The team will attempt to avoid a sweep tomorrow night at 7:00 pm.
