Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabethton Twins shortstop Niko Goodrum hit a bases-clearing triple, starter Ricardo Arevalo threw five stellar innings of shutout ball, and very little went right for the D-Braves as the Twins took game two of this three-game series 10-0 Wednesday night at American Legion Post 325 Field.
A low pitch count led to a pitcher's duel through three, but the Twins broke open the game in the top of the fourth inning. Goodrum hit a stand-up triple and advanced home on a wild pitch by D-Braves starter Eduardo Castillo.
Designated hitter Rory Rhodes, 6-for-9 in the series so far, split the gap to right to give the Twins their second triple of the inning and extend his hit streak to two games. Right fielder Adam Walker plated Rhodes on an RBI groundout to cap the Twins two-run fourth.
Twins catcher Michael Quesada worked a walk to leadoff the fifth and second baseman Stephen Wicken singled off a letter-high fastball from Castillo. With runners at first and second, left fielder Candido Pimentel extended his hit streak to two games on a bases-loading bunt single. Goodrum came through in the clutch with a bases-clearing triple, his second of the night, to stake the Twins a five-run lead.
But the Twins weren't done yet. After chasing Castillo from the game, and batting around in the fifth, the Twins scored two more runs off lefty Mike Hashem, who inherited both runners from Castillo. They put up another crooked number on the board in the sixth to make it 10-0.
On a positive note for the D-Braves, catcher Josh Elander and first baseman Casey Kalenkosky, both selections in this years' Amateur Draft, made the most of their first professional at-bats with back-to-back singles.
Castillo (0-1) labored heavily and ran out of gas early on. He went 4.1 innings with six hits, seven earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Arevalo (1-0) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, fanned three and held D-Braves batters to just three hits against him to qualify for the win.
Danville's three-game home stand comes to a close tomorrow night with a Thirsty Thursday game. Catch the game and enjoy discounted fountain and draft beverages courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings.
The D-Braves will then hit the road and make the trek to Bristol for a three-game series with the Sox. The team returns home for a June 25-27 home stand against the Kingsport Mets. Tickets for any D-Braves game may be purchased at the ALP 325 Field Box Office, by phone at (434) 797-3792, or on-line at www.dbraves.com.
