Burlington Takes Two From Pulaski

June 20, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA- On the first day of summer, RHP Charles Kaalekahi got the start on the bump for Pulaski. Charles started off strong striking out 4 of the first 8 batters he faced but the night did not pan out quite like he dreamed it up.

Burlington struck first during the top of the third, courtesy of a Pulaski miscue. SS Humberto Arteaga laid down a sacrifice bunt that Kaalekahi fielded in a rush; he then proceeded to airmail to the first baseman Lara. The ball managed to roll deep down into the right field corner resulting in two runners scoring.

Like Burlington, Pulaski got their first run on account of a throwing error. Cameron Gallagher tried to catch Brock Hebert stealing third but threw a rocket over the third baseman's head. After three innings of play the score was 3-1 Burlington.

In the bottom of the forth, Hebert tied the game at 4 to 4 with a hard hit RBI single that squeezed past the out stretched glove of Burlington's SS Humberto Arteaga. Pulaski managed to hold off the Royals and strike again in the bottom of the fifth. They took the lead 5 to 4 thanks to another Burlington throwing error with bases loaded, thankfully for the Royals, only one run scored.

During the top of the 8th inning, Mark Threlkeld gave the lead back to the Royals (6-5) when he blasted a two out, two run homerun that disappeared quickly into the dark summer night. The Royals then posted one more run in the top of the ninth to give them a two run lead going into bottom nine. Burlington's reliever Jossiel Martinez gave up a lead-off single by Jordy Lara but extinguished the threat by getting the next three batters to line out.

WP: Stupmf (1-0) LP: Holman (0-1)

The last game of Pulaski and Burlington's three game series will be 7p.m. Thursday at Historic Calfee Park.
