Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
[WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.] â The Winston-Salem Polar Twins and Wachovia are teaming up to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina collect canned goods to help eliminate hunger. On Wachovia Night, set for Friday, January 21, fans are invited to bring a canned food item that will get them $2 off the regular ticket price. By contributing to this effort, you will not only be helping the Food Bank, but the many agencies they support as well.
"We are so pleased to be partnering with our home team â the Winston-Salem Polar Twins â on this promotion to fill the stands and feed the hungry," said Nan H. Griswold, Executive Director for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. "This area has been hit hard with job losses in textiles and other industries. So many families are struggling right now, and predictions are that the job cuts will keep coming. I hope hockey fans will come out and enjoy the game, especially knowing they are helping these families in need."
WachoviaVolunteers! will sponsor the event to help stop hunger in the Triad. WachoviaVolunteers! is a group of employees in the Piedmont Triad that support and enhance volunteer initiatives, such as education, blood drives, and other local grassroots volunteer efforts within the community.
"Wachovia is excited about the upcoming Wachovia Night with the Winston-Salem Polar Twins. It is important for us to share in the effort of bringing the excitement of hockey to the fans of Winston-Salem," said Bob Goldstein from the Communications Office for the WachoviaVolunteers! Piedmont Triad Chapter. "We are so very pleased to offer the opportunity to support the Second Harvest Food Bank by having the fans bring food to the game. This is community support at its best."
The Winston-Salem Polar Twins will take on cross-state rivals the Fayetteville FireAntz on Wachovia Night at 7:30 p.m. It will be the seventh match up of the season between the two clubs and sure to be a spirited game. Fans from Fayetteville are also invited to participate in the food drive.
