Macon Mayhem News Release

It was a night when things came in twos, as three players each had two goals. Unfortunately for the Macon Mayhem, two of those players play for the Columbus Cottonmouths, who defeated the Mayhem 4-2 Saturday night in Columbus.

Matt Robertson, appearing in his fifth game for the Mayhem, opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. It was his first goal of the season.

Ben O'Quinn not only wiped out that deficit, he gave Columbus the lead with a pair of second period goals. The first came at 9:51 with only two seconds remaining on a Mayhem hooking penalty to Michael Wills. O'Quinn got his second goal of the game at 16:21 of the period.

Robertson tied the game with his second goal of the game at 8:56 of the third period. But the tie didn't last long as Shawn Bates scored just 37 seconds later to give Columbus a 3-2 lead. Bates completed the scoring with Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus on the bench in favor of an extra attacker. Bates scored into the empty net with just six seconds left.

The Mayhem's Connor Toomey also jumped into the theme of twos, assisting on both of Robertson's goals. Columbus' Andy Bathgate had two assists giving him a league leading 14 on the season (accounting for all of his points in the league scoring race as he has no goals and 14 assists). Cody Freeman also had two assists in the game for Columbus.

The Mayhem will play its fifth straight road game on Thursday at Fayetteville and then return home Friday to again play Fayetteville at 7:30.
