SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - Linden Bahm scored twice in the third period and Peter Di Salvo made 26 saves as the Mississippi RiverKings (11-3-1) knocked off the Peoria Rivermen (9-5-1) 4-2 for their second win in as many nights.
The RiverKings had to overcome an early second-period deficit. Garrett Vermeersch deflected a Christian Weidauer shot past Di Salvo just 3:06 seconds into the second period to give Peoria a 1-0 lead.
But the RiverKings battled back. After killing off a minute-long five-on-three penalty, Tim Boyle jumped out of the box, took a long pass from Mike Grace and beat Francois Brassard on a breakaway to tie the game at one at the halfway point. The RiverKings took the lead five minutes later on Devin Mantha's fifth goal of the season that deflected off of Brassard and to the back of the net.
The third period saw Peoria tie it up. Matt Summers took the puck out of the corner, spun around and fired a shot through traffic past Di Salvo to tie the game at two 2:27 into the final frame.
Again, the RiverKings came back. With Sam Higgins in the box for slashing, Devin Mantha intercepted an errant Rivermen pass and fed Linden Bahm who beat Brassard on a breakaway to put the RiverKings up 3-2. One minute and thirty seconds later, Bahm earned a penalty shot after getting slashed on a second breakaway and made no mistake, beating Brassard low again to give the RiverKings a 4-2 victory and extend their lead over Peoria to four points.
Peter Di Salvo (7-3-1) picked up the win after stopping 26 of 28 shots against. Francois Brassard (1-2-0) stopped 21 of 25 shots against in the loss. The RiverKings were 0-3 with the man advantage and had three shorthanded goals. Peoria was 0-5 on the power play.
Following the game, the RiverKings auctioned off their Star Wars jerseys to benefit the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. The auction raised over $10,700 for the CFNM.
Linden Bahm scores his first of two goals as the RiverKings beat Peoria for the second time in as many nights, Saturday night at the Landers Center.
