New England Revolution News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Taylor Twellman and Andy Dorman each scored goals for the New England Revolution, but it wasn't enough as the Columbus Crew tallied the late equalizer and the two teams played to a 2-2 draw on Thursday night at Crew Stadium.

Twellman's goal was his third in two games and Dorman scored his second in as many games, but Crew substitute forward Kei Kamara's goal in the 86th minute drew the team even for the final result. Kamara's goal mirrored his effort against the Revolution in Columbus on June 21 last year, when he entered the game late and scored the game-tying goal, also in the 86th minute, in the teams' 1-1 draw.

Columbus (0-0-3, 3 pts.) came out to start the game with crisp passing and physicality to pin New England (1-1-1, 4 pts.) back in its defensive third in the opening minutes. However, after Dorman's goal, play leveled off, although Columbus played a 52-minute period spanning both halves where they managed just one shot.

Ned Grabavoy put the Crew ahead in the eighth minute, scoring Columbus' first goal of 2007 after opening the season with back-to-back 0-0 games. Grabavoy's shot from 17 yards deflected off Revs midfielder Shalrie Joseph's hand in the area and into the net past Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis, who was moving toward the right post on the shot.

Columbus' lead was short-lived, however, as Dorman's second goal of the year leveled the score in the 10th minute. After Khano Smith whipped a cross into Dorman at the top of the penalty area, he laid the ball off to Adam Cristman, who played a one-two sequence with Dorman, allowing the midfielder to gain space for the 12-yard shot to the left post past Crew keeper And Gruenebaum.

Twellman's third goal of the year sent the Revolution into the locker room with a one-goal lead when his 26-yard, right-footed blast found space between Gruenebaum and the left post in the 38th minute.

Play became increasingly physical after a late first-half incident on a Crew corner kick in the 43rd minute. Columbus forward Andy Herron - who scored three goals overall against the Revs in 2006 as a member of the Chicago Fire - elbowed Revs defender Jay Heaps in the face while moving toward goal on the service, sending Heaps to the ground. In the second half, the teams continued to battle as play intensified and four cautions were issued in the final 45 minutes as Columbus pressed for the equalizer.

Twellman nearly put the Revs up two goals in the 75th minute after Dorman sent Pat Noonan into the area. Noonan, who came on a substitute just minutes earlier, dribbled into space and passed to Twellman running on to the ball from the left. Twellman's effort was targeted at Gruenebaum from 10 yards out, however, and the keeper made the save.

Former U.S. international Frankie Hejduk set up Kamara's equalizer, taking the ball and running down the right wing. He sent a cross into the area that skipped under the Revs' defenders to Kamara, who first-timed a shot up and under the crossbar from 12 yards to push the score to the final 2-2 with minutes to play.

After a week off from competition, the Revolution will return to action on Sunday, April 29, when they travel to face FC Dallas at 3 p.m. ET at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. The game will be televised live by TV38, and be broadcast on the WEEI Radio Network.
