Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
The Memphis RiverKings handed the Fort Worth Brahmas a road loss on Sunday afternoon, scoring two first period goals to jump out to an early lead and then cruising to a 3-1 win at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi.
Memphis winger Don Parsons scored his CHL league leading 46th goal of the season at the 11:19 mark of the first period to give Memphis the early lead. Parsons goal, which came when he redirected the puck in front of the Brahmas goal crease, was a powerplay goal. Then, with just three seconds remaining in the opening period, Memphis center Travis Banga tipped another puck into the Fort Worth net to extend the RiverKings lead to 2-0.
Playing their third game in three states in three days, the Brahmas were unable to rally from the early deficit. Memphis added another goal in the second period when center Phil Aucoin potted his 22nd goal of the season at the 1:36 mark of the period.
Fort Worth broke up the shutout bid of Memphis goaltender David Lemanowicz at the 4:30 mark of the third period when forward Jan Jas scored a powerplay goal off of an assist from Derek Seal. Jas's goal was the only score of the night for the Brahmas.
Brahmas goaltender Larry Sterling had a solid performance in the loss, stopping 33 of the 36 Memphis shots that he faced. Lemanowicz earned the win for Memphis, turning away 31 of the 32 Brahmas shots sent his way.
The loss leaves the Brahmas (24-20-6) in a three way tie with Oklahoma City and New Mexico for fifth place in the Northern Conference. Fort Worth is five points behind the Tulsa Oilers for the fourth and final Northern Conference playoff race. The Brahmas will resume their playoff chase this Friday night, March 4, when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7:30 p.m. at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.
