Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
SLIDING PAST THE OILERS â Dan Wildfong scored two goals and Chris Brassard added a goal and an assist as the Mudbugs defeated the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday evening 4-1 with four unanswered goals at the Tulsa Convention Center. The win snapped the Mudbugs' first two-game losing streak since December and improved their overall record to 31-13-4. Dan Gravelle of Tulsa would score just 58 seconds into the game, but Ken Carroll was perfect for the rest of the way between the pipes. In the second period, Wildfong jammed a loose puck past Oilers goaltender Bill Ruggiero to tie the game and break an 0-for-35 Mudbugs power play drought. Then just 37 seconds into the third period, Brassard blasted a one-timer past Ruggiero for the Mudbugs' second power play tally of the game. Insurance would come at 6:05 of the third period as Wes Blevins scored his first goal of the season and Wildfong would add his second goal with an empty-netter at 18:34.
WILDFONG'S NO-LOOK WINNER â Dan Wildfong scored with four seconds remaining in overtime and Jeff Blair made 25 saves as the Mudbugs defeated the San Angelo Saints 3-2 on Friday night in front of 5,264 fans at the CenturyTel Center. Enjoying a 2-1 lead in the third period, the Mudbugs settled into a defensive mode but the Saints tied the game as Nathan Rosychuk threw a backhander across the Mudbugs' goal mouth which banked off of Jeff Blair and over the goal line for the game-tying goal. In overtime, Wildfong took a loose puck from a goal mouth scramble and slid a short, no-look backhand shot past Scott Reid for the game-winning goal. Blair finished with 25 saves for the Mudbugs to improve his record to 9-6-3.
BLANKED BY THE BRAHMAS â On Saturday night, the Fort Worth Brahmas scored three goals in the third period to earn a 3-0 win over the Mudbugs in front of 6,113 fans at the CenturyTel Center. The win for the Brahmas was their first in Bossier-Shreveport since October 19, 2002 and dropped the Mudbugs' overall record to 32-14-4. Dan Wildfong was ejected from the game at 14:38 of the second period and given a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking, but the Brahmas failed to score on the extended power play thanks to several key saves from Ken Carroll. With the game scoreless through two periods, the Brahmas took charge in the third with Chad Woollard scoring his 35th goal of the season at 8:38. Six minutes later, Derrell Upton scored on the power play from a Brandon Carper rebound and Jorin Welsh added the game's final goal with a shot from the blue line just 1:08 later for the 3-0 Brahmas advantage.
