Chicago Dogs News Release
Rosemont, Ill. - Kylin Turnbull tossed the first complete game in Dogs franchise history and Chicago took game one of a weekend series from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-1 Friday night at Impact Field.
Turnbull, who at one point in the game set down 21 straight RedHawks, allowed just one run on four hits, walking one, and striking out four en route to his second victory of the season.
The Dogs bolstered Turnbull with seven runs on 12 hits, and wasted no time getting the party started at the plate. Jonathan Moroney led the game off with a double in the bottom of the first for the Dogs and came in to score on a Treysen Vavra RBI single. Moroney reached base three times in the game and scored three runs as well.
Chicago added three more tallies in the bottom of the third frame on three hits, two walks, and a hit batsmen. The Dogs sent nine men to the plate in the inning and received a two-run double from Tony Rosselli to push the game to 4-0.
Rosselli snapped an 0-14 skid with the double, and would also add his third home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dalton Blaser and Edwin Arroyo accounted for the other two runs for the Dogs, with each picking up an RBI single. In a balanced offensive attack, five different Dogs collected RBI on the night.
Turnbull was the epitome of efficient in his nine innings on the mound Friday night. The Chicago southpaw threw 105 pitches with 70 of them going for strikes, and faced just one 2-0 count all night. Turnbull lowered his season ERA by a full run with the start, from 5.90 to 4.83. The complete game was the 12th in the American Association this year.
Fargo-Moorhead starter Trey McNutt took the loss for the RedHawks in his shortest start of the season, lasting just three innings, and allowing five earned runs on six hits. He now sits at 1-4 on the year.
The two teams will resume their three-game set Saturday at Impact Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts/ with the Crowne Plaza Pregame Show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
