Bakersfield Blitz News Release
Bakersfield, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 and American General Media have announced today a radio partnership for all 16 games plus subsequent post season action. The flagship station for the Blitz will be KGEO "Hot Talk" AM 1230.
The Blitz season commences this weekend with a road match against the Tennessee Valley Vipers, one of the top teams in the American Conference. The Vipers, who play their home games in Huntsville, Alabama, were also selected as the top team in the league in a recent pre-season coaches poll.
All 16 games will air on an American General Media station, with KGEO serving as the host of 15 of them. There is a conflict with the final Bakersfield Condors hockey game of the season, which will bump the Blitz game over to KGEO sister station KERN 1410. The pre-game show will start at 5:20pm with a kickoff at 5:30pm.
The "Voice of the Blitz" in 2004 will be Kevin Bartl, who also handles play-by-play for the Bakersfield Condors hockey team under the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment umbrella. Bartl was the 2003 winner of the West Coast Hockey League Broadcaster of the Year award, and won the same honor in the United Hockey League in 2001. Due to the schedule conflict, this weekend's game will be a simulcast of the Tennessee Valley broadcast, but contain local Blitz features, recorded prior to the team's departure for Alabama.
"It's great to get this done with a radio group that we're familiar with and have a great relationship with," said BSE President Matthew Riley. "We've dealt with AGM and KGEO for years with the Condors, and it makes sense for that to continue here with the Blitz."
"American General Media and the Condors have always been a great combination," said AGM General Manager Roger Fessler. "We're looking forward to continuing our relationship now in the Blitz capacity. It makes for good continuity as well having the games on KGEO; and fans here in Bakersfield can continue to tune in for great local sports action."
The Blitz will play on the road during Week 2 as well, as they travel to Fresno to play the Central Valley Coyotes at 7:30pm. They host their first home game of the season during Week 3 on Saturday, April 17 at 7:00pm against their old rivals, the San Diego Riptide. That night is magnet schedule giveaway for everyone in attendance and also includes a visit from the ZOOperstars.
Season tickets for the Blitz start at just $63, and are on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located at Centennial Garden. Log on to www.bakersfieldblitz.com to stay up-to-date with the latest team information.
