Tulsa Talons News Release
TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa Talons of af2, coming off a first round bye in the Playoffs, are preparing for Saturday night's game against the Louisville Fire this week. Tulsa and Louisville met three times with Tulsa winning all three games. The last time the two teams met was on July 19, 2003 in Freedom Hall (Louisville, KY), where the Fire ended their season in fourth place in the Midwest Division. On the other hand, the Talons went on to the Playoffs and achieved first place in the Central Division, became the National Conference Champions and took home the ArenaCup Championship trophy.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Tulsa Talons, along with Tennessee Valley, are the only teams in af2 history to qualify for the playoffs every year since the league began. The Talons ended their 2004 regular season at 13-3 and are going into the playoffs as the number one seed for the National Conference. The winner of Saturday's game will move on to the Conference Championship game versus the winner between Peoria and Bakersfield.
"We are very excited to play a tremendous Louisville team that was ranked #1 in Week 12 of the season. They are extremely talented and are the top offensive team led by Matt Sauk at quarterback. Their defensive line is very productive with pressure from the opponents' quarterback and their offensive line protects their quarterback giving up only six sacks," stated Head Coach, Ken Matous.
"Coach Johnson will have his team ready! We need to come out this weekend with all cylinders and play as one solid unit in all aspects of the game, offensively, defensively and special teams. There is no more next week without a win this week," stated Defensive Coordinator, Ian Cooper.
TALONS NOTES: The Talons will continue the 2004 season on August 14 at the Tulsa Convention Center for the second round of Playoffs. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available by calling the Talons ticket office at 918-294-1000. Fans may view ticket pricing and seating map by visiting www.tulsatalons.com.
