TULSA, Okla., Feb. 22, 2008 - The Tulsa 66ers opened a two-game homestand with a disappointing 99-119 loss to the Utah Flash on Friday evening at Expo Square Pavilion.
The Flash came out firing, building a 14-8 lead in five minutes. The hot shooting would continue throughout the first, led by Utah guard Morris Almond, who finished the quarter with 19 points. Almond finished the night with 34 points and six rebounds. Utah's shooting was at 55 percent from the field and 88 from behind the arch. The quarter ended with the Flash leading 33-25.
The Flash would continue to build their lead early in the second stretching it to 16 at 41-25 with 8:18 remaining in the half. However, the 66ers began to come out of their daze cutting the lead to 43-35 about halfway through the second quarter.
Tulsa guard Mike Hall paced the 66ers coming off the bench in the first half with 7 points. Tulsa continued to peck away at the lead reducing it to two with just over two minutes remaining. But, the Dazzle heated back up late going on a 10-2 run to close the half and took a 58-49 lead into the locker room. Hall would go on to finish out the night with 20 points.
In the end, the Utah's heavy hitter Morris Almond seemed just too much for Tulsa. The final score was 99-113.
Tulsa finished the game shooting just 42 percent from the field to Utah's 55 percent. Utah outrebounded the 66ers 51-29. Tulsa was 4-of-19 from the 3-point line compared to Utah's 3-of-13 from beyond the arch
The 66ers were led in scoring by Adam Harrington and Mike Hall who both added 20 points. David Noel dished out 17 points, and Chris Ellis added 14 points. Scott Merritt and Jason Fontenet chipped in with 12 points.
The 66ers play Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Expo Square Pavilion.
