
Tullo, Staff Combine to Shutout 'Wings

EDINBURG, Texas - Aaron Tullo, Tetsuya Iwaski and Paul Koss combined for a one-hit shutout leading the Edinburg Roadrunners to a 3-0 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
In the final home game of the season, the Roadrunners (59-36) got all three runs on sacrifice flies.
In the bottom of the second, Stantrel Smith led off with a double and then came in to score on Eric Bloom's sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
Joe Weik hit another sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third that allowed Vincent Blue to score extending the lead 2-0.
Wilmer Pino, who finished three-for-four, led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and came in on Weik's second sacrifice fly of the night making it 3-0.
The WhiteWings (50-42) recorded their only hit of the night in the top of the first against Tullo (6-4) as Bryan Marquez hit a single to left field.
Tullo pitched seven innings while walking two and striking out seven for his sixth win of the season.
Koss struck out the side in the top of the ninth for his ninth save of the season giving Edinburg the 3-0 victory.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will close out the 2012 regular season on Monday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
