
Colts Split Doubleheader with Cats

The Colts won game one of their doubleheader against the Fort Worth Cats, 4-2, but then dropped game two, 6-3, at LaGrave Field Sunday night.
Game one went into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, third baseman Landon Camp crushed a two-RBI double that scored left fielder Cory Patton and catcher Salvador Paniagua.
The Colts took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, courtesy of a two-run homer by right fielder J.J. Sherrill. The home run, Sherrill's third of the year, scored centerfielder Jason Martin.
Down 2-1, the Cats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Third baseman C.J. Beatty scored on an RBI single by right fielder Chuck Caufield. Although Fort Worth battled back, starter Steve Barnes could not hold the Colts' offense at bay in the final inning.
Barnes (6-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in 7 2/3 innings. Colts' closer Erik Draxton (5-1) suffered a blown save, but picked up the win. Draxton gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits in as many innings of work.
The Colts scored first in game two as well, but their lead did not las long.
With Fort Worth trailing 1-0, catcher Scott Dalrymple crushed a three-run homer into left field. It was Dalrymple's third home run of the season, and it scored first baseman Jose Ruiz and designated hitter Derek Marshall.
San Angelo tied the game in the third, but the Cats rallied for three runs in the final two innings to seal the victory. Dalrymple scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by left fielder Chad Gabriel in the fifth. Dalrymple ended the game 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Colts' starter Kyle Boggio (2-3) surrendered two runs in the fifth inning, and therefore took the loss. In all, he allowed five runs, four earned on six hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
Cats' starter Casey Russell (2-4) earned the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on just two hits in five innings. Closer Jeff Jamnik pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for his 20th save in as many attempts.
San Angelo and Fort Worth remain tied for third place in the United League at 51-44. This series concludes Monday night at LaGrave Field at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
The winner of the finale will be the higher seed for the playoffs, and therefore host game two and game three if necessary. The United League Playoffs begin Tuesday.
