Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Red Wings came into Tuesday night's contest against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a 1-14 record when a left-handed pitcher starts against them...and a 1-9 record in games played on Tuesday. Despite doing their best to break both bad habits early in the game, it was more of the same in Rochester's 10-5 loss to the Red Barons Tuesday night at Frontier Field.

Rochester started the game with a three-run first inning off of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lefthander Greg Kubes. Chad Green and Luis Rodriguez led off the inning with singles; Green came around to score on a Shane Andrews fielder's choice RBI. Michael Restovich drove home Rodriguez and Todd Sears to put the Red Wings up, 3-0.

The Red Barons scored once in the fourth inning when Kevin Sefcik singled to center field to score Travis Chapman. Restovich ended a potential Scranton rally when Jeremy Salazar stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and hit a short pop-up to rightfield. The quick-thinking Restovich threw home to get the third and final out at the plate to end the inning and the threat.

The Wings fought back in the end of the fourth inning when Brandon Marsters hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-RBI shot over the left field wall, to score David Lamb and put the Wings up, 5-1.

Two Red Barons sacrifice flies in the fifth shortened the Red Wings lead by two, then Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took the lead and knocked out Wings starter Carlos Pulido (7-4) with four runs in the seventh, with Jeremy Salazar's home run the big hit. They tacked on three more in the eigth inning when Eric Valent lined a 2-RBI triple and Lyle Mouton knocked in a run with a single.

Notes: Restovich extended his hitting streak to four hits with a double in the first inning...Marsters is 7 for 23 with two home runs and four doubles in his last six games. This was Marsters' first game since making a diving attempt at a foul ball last Friday..Jesse Crain made his Triple-A debut, pitching the ninth inning for the Wings. He retired the Red Barons in order.
