Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson's LHP Michael Gosling pitched 6 strong innings en route to a 3-1 victory over Las Vegas. Gosling (7-4) picked up the win with his 6 innings of 1 run ball and also escaped a crucial bases loaded situation in the 5th with the game knotted up at zeros. Despite losing, RHP Mark Johnson (5-11) pitched well for Las Vegas, lasting 6 innings, allowing 3 runs, while striking out 6 Tucson batters. Rehabbing RHP Jose Valverde went 1 inning, allowing only a hit batsmen, to pick up his first save with the Sidewinders. 8 of his 12 pitches went for strikes.
CF Josh Kroeger continued to stay hot after his 4-5 performance in game 2, by hitting his 7th bomb of the season. C Corey Myers, though he didn't start the game, continued to stay hot just like Kroeger. He had 2 hits in his 3 at bats, with one hit via home run, his 4th of the season. Corey now has 4 bombs in his last 11 games with the Sidewidners. In his first 26 games, Corey did not leave the ballpark at all.
The 51's scored their only run with a Cody Ross solo shot to left field in the top of the 4th. It was Ross's 14th connection of the season. With the loss, the 51's dropped their record to 56-70, and also become the first team in the Southern division of the PCL to reach the 70 loss mark. Tucson moved back above .500 with the victory and now stand at 63-62.
4,755 fans came out to experience the last Thirsty Thursday of the season. The game lasted just under 2 and a half hours at 2:27. Probables for the final game of the series feature Las Vegas' RHP Masao Kida (2-1, 6.61) facing Tucson's RHP matt Henrie (1-3, 6.25). Game time is 7:00 PM.
