Nashville Sounds News Release

Metairie, LA- Chris Truby and Shaun Skrehot each drove in three runs and Frank Brooks turned in his second consecutive solid spot start to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 7-3 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Monday evening at Zephyr Field in the third game of a four-game series.

Nashville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when leadoff hitter Rich Thompson reached base and scored later in the frame on Truby's sacrifice fly. The Sounds plated two more runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead on Skrehot's two-run single.

New Orleans catcher John Buck put the Zephyrs on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer against Brooks, the backstop's tenth longball of the year.

The Sounds quickly recovered, getting the pair of runs back in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Truby.

Nashville added two more runs in the ninth on a Skrehot RBI single and a run-scoring double by Chris Snusz, who turned in a 2-for-4 outing for his first multiple-hit game this season.

The Zephyrs scored the game's final run in the bottom of the ninth, when Alex Eckelman and Royce Huffman led off the frame with back-to-back doubles against reliever Willis Roberts.

Carlos Rivera turned in a 2-for-4 outing and scored a pair of runs for the Sounds in the victory, which elevated second-place Nashville (29-28) back above .500. Outfielder J.J. Davis went 0-for-4 in the fourth game of his rehabilitation stint and has produced only one hit (a home run) in 13 at-bats with the Sounds.

Brooks (3-2) picked up the victory for the Sounds after allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings in his second consecutive start. New Orleans starter Carlos Hernandez (4-2) took the loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits in his five frames of work.

The teams wrap up the four-game series with a 12:05 p.m. matinee on Tuesday afternoon at Zephyrs Field. Right-hander Nelson Figueroa (4-4, 5.11) takes the hill for the Sounds. He'll be opposed by New Orleans right-hander Chris Enochs (3-4, 3.42).
