Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Coming off two consecutive shutouts, the Triple-A Phillies pitching staff was unable to extend the scoreless string for a third game -- dropping Thursday's match-up, 7-2, to the Triple-A Yankees in Tampa.

Entering the game with an 18.0 scoreless innings steak, the staff would not get to 19.0. The Yankees bats were strong out of the gate, scoring four runs (three earned) off starter LHP Dan Meyer in the first inning. Meyer lasted just 1.1 IP, throwing 56 pitches and allowing four hits and two walks while fanning one. Meyer was relieved by RHP Tyson Brummett, who surrendered four hits and a run over two innings pitched.

One encouraging aspect of today's game was the continued efficiency of RHP Michael Schwimer. Schwimer - who entered the game having allowed no runs, no hits, no walks and just one base runner through 5.0 IP -- extended his scoreless streak by 2.0 more innings. He allowed just one hit while walking three and striking out three. Schwimer has now recorded 12 strikeouts over seven scoreless frames pitched in minor league camp.

The offense didn't provide much support, managing just six hits and two runs today.

C Sebastian Valle, who provided yesterday's lone run on a solo homer, racked up another RBI with a sacrifice fly. SS Troy Hanzawa, who has taken good advantage of the opportunity to play the Triple-A squad this spring, notched his team-leading fifth RBI with a double (his third of the spring). CF Chris Frey (1-3, BB, SB) scored both runs for the squad.

The Triple-A Phillies (6-4) return home to take on the Triple-A Blue Jays at Carpenter Complex in Clearwater on Friday.
