SYRACUSE, NY -- Paolo Espino pitched seven-shutout innings and clubbed a three-run home run to help the Syracuse Chiefs salvage the finale of the three-game series with the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday evening, 5-3. Espino was a late addition to the lineup after scheduled starter Taylor Jordan was called up by Syracuse's parent club, the Washington Nationals.

Espino's home run came in the bottom of the fourth, and it expanded the lead to 4-0. Espino (1-0) allowed just four hits and fanned three batters. He did not allow a free pass, and required just 95 pitches to work seven innings for the Chiefs. Clayton Richard (1-1) started and worked five frames for the Tribe but received the loss.

The Indians (25-19) didn't fall quietly, as Deibinson Romero belted a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Indianapolis had runners at the corners with two outs when a pitch got away from catcher Dan Butler, but he was able to throw out Tony Sanchez at home while Sanchez was trying to score to end the game.

Syracuse (17-26) snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory. Indianapolis now embarks on a three-game series with Buffalo beginning Monday evening.
