Kinston Indians News Release
The K-Tribe got the series split with Potomac, winning the series finale 7-5 Thursday night in Woodbridge, Virginia. Carlton Smith (8-5) picked up the win and is now tied with Josh Tomlin and Hector Rondon for the most K-Tribe wins with eight. Kinston got another good outing from the bullpen as Neil Wagner and Vinnie Pestano combined for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Pestano got his fourth save of the season and second in as many nights.
Kinston bolted out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Nick Weglarz scored on a Carlos Rivero RBI single. The K-Tribe piled on in the second inning with a two-run home run by catcher Brian Juhl. It was Juhl's third homer of the season. Nick Weglarz added an RBI single for the 4-0 Kinston lead. Potomac gave the game away in the fifth inning, when Trevor Lawhorn threw wide of first base, with the bases loaded and two outs. Two runs scored on the play and a total of three unearned runs would cross the plate as Potomac committed three errors in the inning to give Kinston a 7-2 lead. National's starter Ross Detwiler (5-7) took the loss for Potomac.
Kinston stays on the road, heading to Wilmington, Delaware for a weekend series with the Blue Rocks. Friday night's game starts at 7:05 pm with Kinston's Shawn Nottingham on the mound.
