Tri-City Storm News Release


KEARNEY, Neb. - After failing to earn standing points last weekend, the Tri-City Storm attempt to bounce back this weekend against the Omaha Lancers and Sioux Falls Stampede. The game on Friday against Omaha is at the Viaero Event Center, while the Storm make their first trip of the season to Sioux Falls Arena.

Tri-City lost to the Youngstown Phantoms 5-1 last Friday on home ice, and lost the following night to the Des Moines Buccaneers 3-1 for the second time this season at Buccaneer Arena. Storm C Nick Lappin, who is tied for the USHL lead in goals (8) with Youngstown's C Austin Cangelosi, scored goals in both losses and is on a three-game goal streak heading into this weekend.

On Friday night, the Storm will look to improve their overall record against Omaha that stands at 33-33-10. The Storm were only 1-2-5 last season against the Lancers, as their only victory was at the Viaero Event Center on Feb. 22 (4-3). Lappin had his first career three-point game (2g, 1a) in the Storm's lone win against Omaha and had nine points (3g, 6a) in six games against the Lancers.

Tri-City will travel to Sioux Falls the next day to play the Stampede. The Storm are 33-40-2 all-time against Sioux Falls, which includes being 12-2 all-time in extra-time games. Also, Tri-City has never lost a shootout (7-0) against the Stampede in 11 seasons entering the Storm's 12th season in the USHL.

The game Friday against Omaha will air on The Breeze 94.5 FM, while Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night from Sioux Falls Arena. Both nights, the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show will start at 6:45 p.m.

Tri-City Storm - 3-3-0, 6 pts (T-5th in Western Conference)

- The Storm are led in points and goals by C Nick Lappin - 10 points (8g, 2a).Lappin is on a three-game goal/point streak for the Storm

- On Friday, C Adam Chlapik will face his former team for the first time since being traded to the Storm in the middle of October.Chlapik has five points (1g, 4a) in five games with the Storm and has accumulated 19 shots on goal.In Chlapik's final game with the Lancers, he scored the game-winning goal on the power play against the Sioux City Musketeers (2-1 win)

- G Pheonix Copley (3-4-0) has posted a 2.88 GAA, .907 save-percentage and two shutouts in the seven games for the Storm.Copley is coming off a career-high 40 saves last Saturday night in the 3-1 loss at Des Moines

- The Storm are 1-3-0 in Friday games and 2-2-0 on Saturday games

- Tri-City's power play went 1-for-11 (9.1%) last weekend.The power play is now 4-for-45 (8.9%) this season.the penalty kill fell to 79.5% (31-for-39) after surrendering three power-play goals to Youngstown in the second period in the 5-1 loss last Friday

- The Lancers have the third-best defense in the USHL, averaging 2.25 GA/G.the offense is ranked last in the USHL, averaging 1.75 GF/G

- Omaha LW/C Jimmy Murray leads all Lancer scorer with 7 points (1g, 6a).as no Lancer players have more than two goals this season

- G Alex Lyon (3-1-1) is second in the USHL with the lowest GAA - 1.54.Lyon's save-percentage is also second in the league at .944.Lyon played as a backup goalie last season for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

- Omaha leads the USHL in major penalties (9)

- Omaha is ranked 11th in the USHL on the power play going 3-for-25 (12.0%).The Lancers penalty kill is 26-for-29 (89.7%), which has them ranked fourth in the league

Saturday, Nov. 5 @ Sioux Falls Stampede - 3-3-1, 7 pts (4th in Western Conference)

- Forward Todd Skirving leads the Stampede with six points (4g, 2a) in seven games this season.Skirving played in the BCHL last season with the Prince George Spruce Kings

- Returning RW/C Austyn Young also has six points (3g, 3a) in seven games and leads the Stampede with 29 shots this season.Last season, Young had 32 points (11g, 21a) and was a plus-14 in 54 games for Sioux Falls

- The Stampede are second in the USHL in shots on goal, averaging 33.6 shots per game.however Sioux Falls is the third-worst team in shots against, allowing 33.9 shots/game

- G Stephon Williams (3-2-1) has a 2.05 GAA in seven games played this season.Williams' save-percentage is the fourth-lowest in the league at .936.Last season, Williams played in 35 games and posted a 20-7-6 record, 2.59 GAA, and .909 save-percentage

- Sioux Falls is ranked just ahead of the Storm at 14th in the USHL on the power play going 3-for-32 (9.4%).The Stampede penalty kill is 21-for-26 (80.8%), which has them ranked ninth in the league
