Kearney, Ne. - The Tri-City Storm has claimed defenseman Carver Watson off waivers from the Madison Capitols, Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt announced Sunday.

Watson, 17, has played in 19 games this season with Capitols, accruing four penalty minutes. Last season, as a 16 year old, Watson missed two regular season games for the Capitols, scoring one goal, five points and taking two minor penalties.

"We are happy to bring Carver into the organization," said Muckalt. "He fits the long-term plan for our team and adds depth to our defense. We are looking forward to helping him develop."

The 5-foot-11, 160-lb. defenseman is committed to Michigan Tech and is the second-youngest of four brothers; his two older brothers, Cliff and Cooper, have played multiple USHL seasons. Oldest brother, Cliff, 22, is a junior defenseman and co-Captain for the Huskies that played 120 games with the Sioux City Musketeers from 2011-13. Cliff was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Carver's other older brother, Cooper, is in his third-year USHL season. Cooper, 19, has spent the last two seasons playing defenseman for the Madison Capitols. Cooper is also committed to Michigan Tech.

The three brothers are products of Appleton United High School, where Carver played from 2012-14 before joining Madison for the start of the 2014 USHL campaign. In two seasons, Watson knocked in 16 goals and tallied 47 points for Appleton United.

The Storm travels to the eastern outpost of the USHL, Youngstown, for a pair of games against the Phantoms next Friday and Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The Viaero Wireless Pregame Show starts at 5:45 p.m for both games. Tri-City is next at home on Feb. 19 against Sioux Falls for Thunderstruck Night, with a Free Kids Friday and a special thunderstick giveaway. Listen to the Storm's games on the Breeze 94.5 FM with David Fine.
