Trenton Titans News Release
The Titans push for a playoff spot started in exciting fashion with a "payback" win in Kalamazoo. However Cincinnati put a quick damper on things as it continued its recent mastery over Trenton with a pair of wins...including one with a very rare incident.
Thursday February 14: TRENTON - 4, Kalamazoo - 3
Valentine's Day is a perfect time for both raising hearts and breaking them, so that's exactly what these two teams did in Trenton's lone visit to Michigan this year.
Power play goals were the gift of the night and Trenton cashed in right away in its 2-0 lead. Marvin Degon made his first goal as a Titan count just 3:21 into the contest, while Brian Haczyk banged home his ninth of the year early in the second for a 2-0 advantage.
But Haczyk's goal only opened the floodgates, as the Wings ripped off three unanswered in a 3:36 span to grab their only lead at 3-2.
With momentum against the Titans, Haczyk stopped the bleeding with his second PPG at 18:45, setting the stage for a heart-stopping third.
Scott Wedgewood (34 saves) and K-Zoo's Joel Martin (29 saves in his - at that time - 34th consecutive start), provided one spectacular save after another until the 12:05 mark. Blake Kessel nailed his first goal with the Titans since returning from Adirondack (AHL) on February 5th. His rip from the right point beat Martin under glove for the eventual game winner, after a tense minute of 6-on-5 Trenton needed to kill in closing out the night.
Trenton converted on half of its six power play chances, while its ECHL-leading PK unit stopped the Wings three of four times.
Friday February 15: Trenton - 1, CINCINNATI - 2
Cincinnati hasn't lost at home to Trenton since November 18, 2009, and wouldn't let that streak end on this night. So if the win wasn't a shocker to many Cyclones' fans, what propelled the win would be.
Late in an evenly played first, Trenton found itself on a delayed penalty. With Scott Wedgewood (32 saves) pulled for the 6-on-5, Trenton put good pressure and a couple shots on Brian Foster (28 saves). But a pass to the blue line misfired, going the length of the rink with enough speed and accuracy to finish in the Titans' net. The "own goal" was credited to Foster - the last Cyclone to touch the puck - for the 11th goal scored by a goalie in the ECHL's 25-year history.
After Davide Nicolette got his first professional goal in the States in the second, Andy Bohmbach spoiled the shutout with his 20th of the year, making things interesting with a put-back at 10:01 of the third to cut the deficit in half.
However the Titans would get no closer, even with Wedgewood pulled in the final minute, as Trenton couldn't get the equalizer.
Saturday February 16: Trenton - 2, Cincinnati - 5
Trenton never had any jump from the get-go in this one, thought it was only down 1-0 (on a short-handed goal) heading into the second.
Again, a second period explosion stung the Titans, but this time it was a blow they would not recover from, as three goals in less than a two-minute stretch midway into the period ballooned the lead to 4-0.
After making it 5-0 in the third, the Cyclones again couldn't help get Foster his first shutout of the season. Gritty goal-scoring efforts buy Jacob Drewiske (10th at 13:27) and Kory Nagy (5th at 18:42) spoiled the bid and made the final score a bit more respectable.
Wedgewood picked up his fifth loss (0-4-0-1) against CIN, but stats don't tell the whole story, as many of his 35 saves were of the spectacular style.

Relief Effort In The Wake Of Hurricane Sandy: As time passes and the holidays came upon us, it is easy to forget the people who were - and continue to be - effected in the aftermath of Sandy. The Titans are grateful to the members of Titans Nation who provided - and continue to offer - relief supplies for those in need.
The Titans will continue the help their neighbors and will keep delivering donations as they come in. Trenton would like to thank its friends at Justin's Rentals in Trenton, for supplying the transportation needed to deliver those donations. For information on how you can help, please call
