Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (36-13-3-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, ended their losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Stockton Thunder (27-21-5-4) on Wednesday night before 5,591 fans.
It wasn't until the second period that the puck found the back of the net. The goal came at the hands of C.J. Stretch for his 27th goal of the season. He brought the puck into the Thunder zone with the help of new Reign winger D.J. King. Stretch's first shot hit the pads of Tyler Bunz, but he found the rebound and backhanded the puck past the Stockton goalie. King earned his first Reign point in his first game with the assist.
The Reign really came alive in the third period getting past the Thunder defense and scoring three more goals.
Mario Lamoureux gave the Reign a two-goal lead as he deflected a pass from Brodie Sheahan in off the post. Chris Cloud recorded the other assist on the play.
Stockton saved themselves from being shut out at the 5:05 mark of the final frame with a laser from Brandon Davidson at the point which was deflected in past Dustin Carlson by Matt Bergland.
Just 16 seconds later, Brady Calla controlled an attempted clear by Bunz and his shot from the outside of the right face-off circle made its way through traffic and through the goalie's legs to put Ontario up 3-1.
About halfway through the final stanza, there was a scrum in front of the Thunder net. Once the puck came loose, Dan DaSilva was there to fire it top shelf to secure the Reign's victory 4-1. Kyle Kraemer and Derek Couture added the assists.
Carlson earned his second Reign win with 21 saves on 22 shots, Bunz took the loss with 24 saves on 28 shots.
