
Trenholm Scores Two as Sea Dogs Tie up Playoff Series

The Saint John Sea Dogs (1-1-0-0) tied up their playoff series against the Rimouski Océanic (1-1-0-0) in a 4-2 win at TD Station. Connor Trenholm got the crowd going with the first goal of the playoffs, and again in the second period for his second of the night. Raivis Ansons and William Dufour scored the third and fourth goals on power plays in the final period, securing the win at home.
Thomas Couture got the start in net for Saint John, making 22 saves on 24 shots. Gabriel Robert started for Rimouski, allowing 4 goals on 32 shots, before being replaced by Patrik Hamrla, who made nine saves in his relief.
The Sea Dogs went on an early penalty kill at 6:41. Connor Trenholm served a two minute minor for too many players on the ice.
At 11:43, Connor Trenholm hit the back of the net, ripping a wrist shot off a pass from Philippe Daoust to take the lead midway through the period.
11 seconds later, Alexandre Lefebvre was ejected from the game with a five minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing on a hit against Jérémie Poirier. Poirier was assisted off the ice, but returned to play later in the period.
The resulting five minute power play was strong, the Sea Dogs kept the pressure on, earning a few good chances but ultimately not scoring and Saint John went into the second period up 1-0.
Shots after the first period were 14-3 for Saint John.
3:48 into the second period, Connor Trenholm scored his second of the night, picking up the loose puck off an attempt from Ryan Francis and tucking it in to take a 2-0 lead.
The rest of the period was filled with penalties on both sides. Brady Burns went to the box on a slashing call at 5:34 and the Oceanic followed it with a holding call against Mathis Gauthier at 9:09. At 9:50, Peter Reynolds received two minutes for a check to the head and at 12:26 Olivier Picard received four for high sticking. All penalties were successfully killed.
With 1:24 remaining in the period, Jérémie Poirier was sent off on a tripping call and the Sea Dogs began the third period short handed.
Shots after the second period were 27-12 for Saint John.
At 6:02, the Oceanic took a penalty, Jacob Mathieu for a check to the head, and the Sea Dogs were able to score the first power play goal of the series when Raivis Ansons redirected the puck in front of the net 40 seconds into the power play.
Luka Verreault took a hooking penalty at 7:04 and the Sea Dogs were able to capitalize once again. William Dufour deked around a skater and ripped a wrist shot past Gabriel Robert to make it 4-0.
Rimouski scored their first goal of the night at 12:11 when Mathis Gauthier slipped the puck past Couture.
At 17:34, Rimouski scored their second and final goal of the night. Louis Robin scored his second goal of the series.
Final shots were 41-24 for Saint John.
