Tremendous Eighth Inning Paces Blowfish to Victory
June 18, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Lexington County, S.C. (June 18, 2015) - For the third straight game, Lexington County Blowfish bats remained red hot, as they defeated the Forest City Owls 9-1 on Thursday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Paced by a monster three-run home run off the bat of Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University), the Blowfish ripped this game wide open with a six-run eighth inning. In the process, Blowfish batters batted around. New addition to the lineup Nick Gragganella (Florida State) had two hits in the inning, scoring once.
Gragganella started the inning off with a double, his first hit of the season. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) would get him home on an RBI single. Back-to-back RBI singles from Howard Joe (Mercer University) and Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina) would keep the inning going before Edgeworth sent The Lex into a frenzy with his three-run blast.
J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall, to give the Blowfish a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Up until that point, the Blowfish only had two hits. The prior two runs scored on an error in the first inning.
Forest City left eight runners on base over the course of the night. Aside from a run in the first inning, scoring opportunities in the second, third, seventh and eighth innings were erased by pitchers Elliot Lance (Wofford), Nick Jobst (USC-Aiken) and Nick Wood (Oral Roberts).
Lance got the win, his second of the season, pitching six solid innings, allowing a run.
In the second inning, Robert Grilli and John Mangum reached base for the Owls with nobody out. Lance would strike out the side, twice looking, to erase the largest threat of the evening for the visitors.
The Blowfish have now won four of the last five games. The offense has scored 29 runs in the last three games.
Up next, the Blowfish will take on Forest City on the road Friday at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the action on Z93.1 FM The Lake starting at 6:50. The Blowfish return home on Saturday night to take on the High Point-Thomasville HiToms at 7:05 p.m. for Star Wars Night.
