Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Wilson, N.C. (June 17, 2015) - 29 combined runs, 29 combined hits, 15 combined walks and eight combined errors--just a taste of what transpired in an 18-11 loss to the Wilson Tobs at Fleming Stadium on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game winning streak.
Coming off of a huge win at Peninsula, the Lexington County Blowfish ran with that momentum early, taking a 4-0 lead. J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) and Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) set the table in the first inning for Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University), who got off the schneid with a hot shot down the first base line, a two-run double, into the deep right field corner to get the party started.
Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) knocked Edgeworth in to take a 3-0 lead. Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) followed up in the third inning with an RBI single to bring in Stokes for his second run of the game.
In the process of scoring 11 runs in the game, the Blowfish increased their already impressive average of 6.75 runs per game against Eastern Division foes to 7.6 runs per game.
The Tobs would go on a massive run starting in the third inning that would go unmatched. They would score 13 runs between the third and sixth innings. The Tobs would bat around in the fourth inning, scoring five of those runs on two hits and three walks.
Tobs batters would also bat around in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring five more runs to extend their lead to 18-11.
Everett Eynon proved to be the ultimate pest in this game, going 3-for-4 at the dish for Wilson, scoring every single time he came to the plate; all four of those runs came in consecutive innings stretching from the bottom of the third to the bottom of the sixth.
Errors and walks proved costly in every instance. The Blowfish committed six fielding errors, and Blowfish pitchers issued 11 walks as a staff. The bottom of the third saw the Tobs score three runs thanks in part to five walks.
Bradley and Crowe each slugged a solo home run in this game. Crowe crushed his fourth home run of the season, and for Bradley, it was his first of the 2015 campaign.
Crowe finished the game 3-for-5, scoring twice, and driving in three runs.
Six Blowfish had multiple hits, totaling 16 as a team in this game.
The Blowfish return home on Thursday night to take on the Forest City Owls at 7:05 p.m. Secure your spot at Lexington County Baseball Stadium by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street in Lexington, S.C.).
