Chicago Steel News Release
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - The Chicago Steel were powered by the top line of Travis Treloar (2-0-2), Nick Abruzzese (1-0-1) and Robert Mastrosimone (0-1-1) as they combined for four points in a 5-3 win over the Green Bay Gamblers Saturday night at Resch Center. Chicago (3-4-1-0, 7 pts.) had goals from four different scorers as goaltender Justin Robbins made 31 saves in the win over Green Bay (3-5-0-0, 6 pts.).
The Steel opened the scoring 3:20 in when center Cole Quisenberry sent a loose puck over the blocker of Gamblers goaltender Jake Begley. After sustained pressure in the offensive zone, defenseman John Spetz sent a shot towards the net that hit traffic in front and fell to Quisenberry's stick for the immediate shot.
Green Bay thought it had the equalizer midway through the period, but a heads up play by Robbins to reach behind and drag the puck on edge off the goal line was upheld as no goal upon video review despite the goal light going off.
Just 1:39 later, Chicago doubled its lead thanks to right wing Travis Treloar. After defenseman Uula Ruikka sent a point shot towards the net, the puck hit a large group and trickled to the side of the cage where Treloar collected and spun behind the net on his backhand to beat Begley.
Treloar picked up his second of the game 3:55 into the second period when he jammed home a diving shot. The play started when left wing Robert Mastrosimone commanded the eyes of all five Green Bay skaters before he found Treloar behind everyone with a pass on his tape. Treloar attacked the net with a forehand-backhand move to jam in the goal.
The Gamblers got a goal back on their third powerplay opportunity of the game when Austin Heidemann finished off a pass from Jesse Tucker to cut the Steel lead to 3-1 with 10:54 to play in the second.
Chicago responded when Ruikka got a goal of his own early in the third period when his shot deflected off of two Gamblers to beat Begley. The Miami University commit employed patience in the offensive zone and his shot knocked the stick out of the hand out of Noah Ganske before bouncing off of Tyler Spott and past Begley.
Green Bay answered 2:04 later when Nicholas Zabaneh finished off a cross-crease feed from Tucker.
After a Green Bay goal from Nicholas Zabeneh, the Steel answered with a goal of their own as center Nick Abruzzese scored his second in as many nights. Abruzzese carried the puck from his blue line across the neutral zone and between a pair of Gamblers before rifling a wrist shot through the five hole of Begley.
Chicago is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Iowa for a matchup with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for the only game of the weekend.
The Steel return home November 2 and 3 for a pair of games against Green Bay and Muskegon, including the first post-game Skate with the Steel on Saturday, November 3. Tickets for all Steel home games are on sale now starting at just $10 and stadium seating on the glass is available for just $20. Parking is always free. The Steel offer discounted tickets for groups and season ticket plans start at just 5 games for $45.
