Macon Trax News Release
[Macon, Ga.]-- The Macon Trax have taken down the first place Jacksonville Barracudas twice in two nights. Boeing Military Night proved to be a success as the Trax rolled to a 4-1 victory in front of 2,542 happy Trax fans.
David Deeves started the scoring mid way through the first period for the Trax (13-10-2, 28 points), his first of two goals on the night. The assist went to Edan Welch who continues to shine after a short stint on injured reserve.
With two assists in the game tonight, Welch has four points in two games this weekend. His hot streak could not have come at a better time as his parents were in attendance.
The Barracudas' (18-9-1, 37 points) lone goal came at the 6:04 mark in the second period. Andrew Oke found the back of the net as Geoff Faulkner was screened by a pair of âCuda players.
With the scored tied late in the second period the Trax were hungry for a lead at the second intermission. Luke Murphy lit the lamp for the sixth time this season at the 18:13 mark. Joining the late scoring push was Ryan Rivard who put a rebound past Jacksonville goalie Randy Hevey with only 46 seconds reaming.
"I think that was the key to the game." said Macon Head Coach Tommy Stewart, "Whenever you give up a goal in the last two minutes it hurt, and we were able to put two home."
The third period was relatively quiet. The Trax played solid in their own zone as Faulkner was en route to a 36 save performance. The win was Faulkner's fifth win his last six starts.
The Trax will look to move this season high win streak to five as the season long six game home stand finishes against Alabama. The Trax will meet up against the Slammers for a Sunday evening affair. The puck drops on Jan. 18 at 4:05 pm. It is "Blowout Sunday" when all upper level tickets are only five dollars. Call the Trax office at 478-742-4849 for more information.
