Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.]— Hockey across the South will finally join forces as one league. The Southern Professional Hockey League was officially unveiled today in nine cities (SPHL).

The new league includes the Asheville (N.C.) Aces, Cape Fear FireAntz (Fayetteville, N.C.), Columbus Georgia, Huntsville Havoc, Jacksonville Barracudas, Knoxville Ice Bears, Macon (Ga.) Trax and Winston-Salem Polar Twins. In addition, the Orlando Seals have signed an Affiliation Agreement with the SPHL that the Board of Governors will vote on at the League meeting on July 19th.

With the new venture the Trax will once again be able to battle their rivals to the West. The Columbus and Macon rivalry will return to the ice for the first time since March 30, 2002.

"Macon hockey is very lucky to have this new league." said Trax General Manager Joe Suk, "Not only do we increase the number of opponents then we had last season, but we also get to bring back one of the best rivalries in hockey."

Each team in the Board of Governor led league will meet on July 19, 2004 to finalize the SPHL Rules and Regulations for the 2004-2005 season. A league schedule will be published in August for the 2004-2005 season set to begin play in late October.

Trax Head Coach Tommy Stewart has already spoken to many players about playing for the Trax in the 2004-05. Stewart will be entering his second season as the team's head coach and is currently in Canada scouting players at camps.

"I am truly excited to see Columbus back in the loop." said Stewart, "I have been a player on both sides of the ice in this series and I know how great these games will be. It will also be nice to see some other teams we used to play in our league."

Macon will be reunited with many former rivals. Besides playing Columbus in the days of the Central Hockey League, Macon will welcome back Fayetteville/Cape Fear and Huntsville to the mix. In addition, the Trax will get to face their old Atlantic Coast Hockey League rivals from Knoxville and Winston-Salem.

Season tickets and corporate packages for the 2004-05 season are on sale now for as low as $99. To be a part of exciting Macon Trax hockey call the office at 478-742-4849.
