Florida Seals News Release

Orlando, FL – Professional hockey organizations from cities across the South have affiliated and the result is the newly formed Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

The new league includes the Asheville Aces (Asheville, NC), Columbus Georgia, Huntsville Havoc (Huntsville, AL), Jacksonville Barracudas (Jacksonville, FL), Knoxville Ice Bears (Knoxville, TN), Macon Trax (Macon, GA), Winston-Salem Polar Twins (Winston-Salem, NC), and the Cape Fear FireAntz (Fayetteville, NC). In addition, the Orlando Seals (Orlando, FL) have signed an Affiliation Agreement with the SPHL that the Board of Governors will vote on at the League meeting on July 19th. The Seals will hold a press conference on Monday, July 12 at 2:00 pm. Seals owner David Waronker and General Manager Chris LiPuma will be present at the conference, held at the Seals office at 127 North Magnolia Avenue, to answer any questions.

"Each organization has worked diligently for several weeks to form this new league. Every effort has been made to make sure the structure of the league provides the foundation for quality, yet family affordable hockey in our cities for years to come. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this is the best option for both the fans and for professional hockey in these cities." SPHL Interim Chairman of the Board, Kevin MacNaught said. "The search is already underway to find the most qualified person to lead the SPHL as Commissioner in our inaugural season."

Each team in the Board of Governor led league will meet on July 19, 2004 to finalize the SPHL Rules and Regulations for the 2004-2005 season. A league schedule will be published in August for the 2004-2005 season set to begin play in late October.

The Seals are currently accepting season ticket applications for the 2004-05 season. For more information call the Seals at (407) 447-PUCK (7825).
