Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.] – The Macon Trax suffered their first defeat on home ice this season. The Jacksonville Barracudas came to town and won 4-3 behind a two goal performance from Jamie Miller.

The fresh legs of Jacksonville (3-1-0, 6 points) made the difference down the stretch. Last night the Trax (3-2-0, 6) had a marathon game, and the lingering effects showed.

Miller opened up the scoring at 9:40 into the contest on a feed from newcomer Derek Toninato. The Barracudas were still hungry in the first period as they added a second goal at the 12:56 mark by former Macon skater Klage Kaebel.

The Trax came out firing on all cylinders in the second period. David Deeves netted his team leading fourth goal and ninth point of the season. Just under four minutes later defenseman Steve Howard tied the game up with a beautiful rebound shot.

The lead was short lived for the Boys in Black. John McCabe gave the Barracudas the lead for good, as he scored for the first time this season.

The third period seemed to be quiet. Miller added his second goal of the game, third of the season, once again on an assist from Kaebel.

The Trax attempted to come back from a two goal deficit for the second time in the game. Coach Tommy Stewart pulled goaltender Andy Kollar to gain the extra attacker. With 23 seconds to go, Luke Murphy cut the lead in half and brought the crowd to their feet.

The Trax had a few chances in the final seconds, but could not get it past Barracuda goalie Brandon Snee. With the win Jacksonville and the Trax are even atop the WHA2 with six points, pending the Miami/Orlando game.

The Trax finish their three game home stand Friday night. The Orlando Seals will swim to town for a 7:35 pm face off. Tickets can be purchased at the Trax office by calling 478-742-4849.

All games home and road can be heard on www.irn.fm. For the next few weeks irn.fm will be extending free broadcast to all WHA2 fans.
