Macon Trax News Release

[Macon Ga.] - The Macon Trax, of the WHA2, made their lone exhibition game count on Sunday afternoon. The Trax rolled into Pelham and defeated the Slammers 5-2 behind a Ryan Rivard hat tick.

Besides the seven goals, fans were treated to four good fights. The Trax and Slammers gave the crowd a great start to what will be a fierce new rivalry.

After a first period of no scoring, Rivard found the back of the net for the first time on the power play at the 9:12 mark. Edan Welch and Mike Bujdos were credited with the assists. Alabama tied the game up quickly when Jim Black beat Kevin Block.

With about five minutes to go in the first period, Rivard put the Trax back into the lead, off a great pass from Welch. When the team returned for the third period, the Trax were ready to shut the door.

Just 26-seconds into the final period, Rivard netted another power play goal from another Welch pass to finish his hat trick. The Slammers tried to climb back into the game as Mike Donahue trimmed the Trax lead 3-2 with a power play goal at 8:07. That would be as close as Alabama got.

"It was great to score three goals," Rivard said, "Sometimes you find the back of the net and sometimes it takes awhile. I hope I can carry this into the season."

Craig Miller and David Deeves added insurance goals in the latter stages of the period to secure the 5-2 victory. Welch completed his steller day as he picked up his fourth assist on the final Trax goal of the afternoon.

The Macon Trax will open their season versus the Lakeland Loggerheads in Florida on Nov. 6. The first ever WHA2 game will drop the puck at 7:05 pm. All games this season can be heard on www.irn.fm.

The Trax home opener is Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:35pm versus the Alabama Slammers. The Trax will hand out Burger King Magnet schedules to those who arrive early. Throughout the game fans will get to enjoy performances by the nationally renowned Zooperstars.
